Biography

Getting people hyped to learn about infection control can be challenging. Annette knows, she’s worked in infection control for the animal care industry for over a decade. As an educator on the subject, she’s written articles for trade publications and presented at conferences. While it’s her passion, as those on the receiving end of her vigorous texts and emails about infectious diseases can confirm, she also understands that when someone is presented with the option of attending an educational course on increasing revenue versus one on infection control, the former probably wins. But what if revenue is inextricably linked to infection control? The economic impact of the last several months would indicate that certainly may be the case. From global economies, to local revenues, to your animal care facility’s bottom line, the spread of infectious disease can have a profoundly painful financial impact. Are you ready for the next outbreak? Join Annette for lessons learned over the past several months and how to make sure your business is ready to survive and thrive in the new normal.

One of the scariest realities of caring for dogs and cats in a pet care business is the pet escape risk. There can often be hidden escape paths throughout a facility that the business owner and manager may not see or think about until it’s too late. Even with tight security measures, the reality is that there are many variables out of the business owners and manager’s control that can lead to an escaped pet. Kennelwood Pet Resorts would like to share our experiences and things we have learned in our 46 year history regarding prevention measures and escape pet protocol.

Employee wellness is a hot topic, but what is it? When you think of employee wellness terms like the following may come to mind: Compassion Fatigue, Burnout and Suicide Awareness. While Veterinarians tend to get the most “attention” around these topics, they affect everyone in any veterinary position. The first step in diagnosing and treating any condition, just like in veterinary patients, is understanding what exactly something is. What is Compassion Fatigue? How is it different than burnout? What can be done to anticipate and manage how our industry impacts us on a psychological and physical level? All of these things and more will be answered in this engaging session. Self-care is at the center of surviving this industry. In the words of your friendly flight attendants: “please ensure you secure your own oxygen mask, before helping those around you secure theirs”.
