Biography

The Dog Handler to Day Trainer Course provides an introduction to basic obedience dog training for the experienced dog handler employee. Dog Handler to Day Trainer Course topics include: tools (treats and rewards, treat pouches, training leashes, collars, hand signals), building trust and becoming a resource, creating attachment (coercion, scent, affirmation, and sculpting behaviors), vocabulary and commands (name, good, anh-anh, come, find it, wait), and applications (training outside, training pet parents and pet family, jumpers). At the end of this course, the learner must submit a video to Dog Handler Academy showing him/her as the trainer with a dog, demonstrating these skills from the course: walking the dog, calling the dog’s name, giving treats along the walk; loose leash walking (without using the dog’s name); the “wait” command (e.g., at a door with the dog waiting to go through until asked by the trainer); the “anh-anh” command and taking a half step into the dog’s personal space for spatial pressure. The business or individual who purchases the course also receives access to a series of videos and ideas to create (or improve) your dog day training or dog school program.
